Crazy Horse Saloon - Santa Ana, CA on July 11, 1999

Hello, Marty Fans!

I'm terrible about writing reviews, but had to tell you that I saw both of Marty's shows tonight at the Crazy Horse Saloon in Santa Ana, California. The shows were AWESOME, but what else would you expect from Marty, right? He did plenty of his hits and shared some of the new material from The Pilgrim. The album is great, but it sounds even better in person. Marty really knows how to tell a story through his music.

Marty has played this famous nightclub many times over the years. It's known for its size and intimacy. It only holds about 275 people! Unfortunately, the owners are relocating the club to a larger venue. Marty talked about this night being the last time he would play at the world famous Crazy Horse in this century....or ever for that matter, since the club is relocating. So the next time Marty returns, it will be at the new venue.

I'm sure you all know that Marty prefers black and he wore black pants and black shirts for both shows. During the encore, he returned in a colorful, floor length coat; blue with pink lining at the end of the first show and purple with red lining at the end of the second show. These coats were beautiful and got plenty of "oohs and aahs" from the crowd. Marty said, "If you're wondering where I got my coat....I got it at Wal-Mart." Somehow, I don't think I believe him!!!

In between shows, I went backstage for the meet & greet. Marty was so genuine and took his time signing photos for everyone, even though he still had a second show to do. Marty and I shared a mutual friend who passed away a little over a year ago. Marty and I chatted briefly about our friend. He started asking me questions.....and, of course, my mind went blank! I get so nervous when I'm in the presence of Marty Stuart that I can't remember anything. Does he have that kind of affect on anyone else?

After the second show, I had one quick opportunity to see Marty again. I didn't have anything for him to sign. I just wanted to say goodbye. He gave me one of the best hugs! Thanks to Marty for making this a wonderful night.

Hope to catch Marty again in August when he returns to this area.
