The Jimmie Rodgers Foundation Tuesday announced summer activities that will spotlight country and Gospel music.

The biggest news is country legend Merle Haggard will join Philadelphia native Marty Stuart for a concert July 25, 2010 at the MSU Riley Center.

It comes during an exhibit of Sparkle and Twang, Stuart's collection of authentic country music memorabilia, July 10 - September 18, 2010 at the Riley Center.

The foundation says it's an appropriate showcase for Meridian.

"This is a cooperative effort of our community, with many entities working together for our community to bring good entertainment and to focus on our heritage, our musical heritage," said foundation president Betty Lou Jones. "And the fact that Jimmie Rodgers, the Father of Country Music is from Meridian, which makes Meridian the birthplace of America's music."
